Willard Boats 2013 Rendezvous
25 Classic Trawler Yachts Attend Gathering in Anacortes, WA
Willard Marine has a long history of manufacturing quality boats beginning in 1957. It was the first company to offer a line of production fiberglass trawlers, beginning with the William Garden designed Vega 36 in 1961. These were followed by a wide variety of models based on 30, 36, 40, and 47-foot hulls. The first Willard Boat Rendezvous was held in Brownsville, WA in 1992 but the event didn’t really get traction until 2007 when 13 boats attended in Port Townsend, WA. This year was the largest gathering ever, under picture perfect conditions, with 25 boats, in a wide variety of models attending. Thanks to the hard work of Rick Etsell the event was enjoyed by all with two nights of activities, including a barbecue, and an open house to tour the boats by the public.
The Marina in Anacortes has been reserved again for the first week in May 2014 and we look forward to an even larger attendance.
Although Willard ceased production of recreational vessels in 2003 to focus on military and patrol boat markets their trawler yacht and sailboats are in high demand today for their rugged simplicity and full displacement hulls.
